Mahashivratri Celebrations were held at Harihar Ashram, Haridwar under the divine guidance of H.H.Swamiji, which was attended by hundreds of prabhu premis, disciples and saints from different parts of the world. The 'Pratham Shahi Snaan' or the 'First Divine Holy Dip' of Mahakumbh took place on the sacred occasion of Mahashivratri from 11 am onwards. H.H.Swamiji left from Harihar Ashram at approximately 7:30 am and arrived at Maya Devi temple, where all the devotees and saints had assembled for the procession. Soon after having darshan at the temple, the procession left for 'Har ki Pauri' for the holy dip. It was indeed a remarkable sight - the Juna Akhara leading the procession of saints, with H.H. Swamiji, the Acharya of the Juna Akhara, at the very forefront of the procession and followed by thousands of saints and holy men. Worship of Lord Mahamrityunjay, Parad Shivling and the holy Rudraksh tree was conducted as devotees poured into the Ashram throughout the day, to offer milk, fruits, flowers, bael leaves and their pranam to Lord Shiv. Rudrabhishek and ceremonial worship of the Parad Shivling is conducted only once a year, and that is on the occasion of Shivratri.' Char pahar ki pooja' (worship in four parts) was conducted in Paradeshwar temple, including Rudrabhishek, which began at approximately 9 pm and lasted all through the night. Devotees kept vigil throughout the night as they spent their time in japa, prayer and meditation.
